Resources for Parents

  • Scholastic has announced free access to digital subscriptions!  This includes Bookflix which offers many read-a-long stories from well loved authors. On this website you and your child can watch videos of favourite or new stories.  Educational activities are provided on a side bar for each book.  Scienceflix activities covers a wide range of science interests for children and teens.  Check out Scholastic's other free subscriptions to support literacy and encourage learning:  Note that this is a US website so the resources such as maps, languages and history will reflect that.

  • Libraries have posted great stories read by librarians.  This one is a favourite that you may enjoy at bedtime if you have young children: "The Kiss That Missed" by author David Melling.  This is on vimeo and you will see other links to stories read by librarians here.
  • Dr. Suess is a favourite of parents and children alike.  Visit Seussville online to find games, recipes, craft ideas, colouring sheets, and many more activities you can do with children at home.   https://www.seussville.com/parents/
  • STEM activities and experiments are available on this website for all grade levels Pre-K to high school (STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).  Under the ACTIVITIES tab, you can select the topic and grade level of activities you are interested in:  STEM Lab
  • Cool Math website offers free online math lessons, games, activities, quizzes, apps for children.  This link is for the parent section of the website which provides supports to help you keep the learning going in a fun, interactive way.  http://www.coolmath4parents.com/
  • Ontario Ministry of Education: Find information and updates on Ontario's education system including Childcare, and EarlyON Child and Family Centres.  The information is available in multiple languages. http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/parents/
